Merson Law is proud to share that firm partner Nathan Werksman was recently featured in Stanford Lawyer magazine for his leadership in advancing plaintiff-side advocacy and training the next generation of trial lawyers.
The article, titled “Raising the Plaintiffs’ Bar,” highlights a nationwide surge of interest in plaintiff-side legal careers, particularly among law students eager to fight for individuals’ rights and hold powerful institutions accountable. Werksman, a 2018 graduate of Stanford Law School, co-founded the Stanford Plaintiffs Law Association (SPLA) and returned this year to lead and speak at the school’s inaugural PLA Workshop, a two-day training and networking event for aspiring plaintiffs’ attorneys.
Speaking to a full house of law students from Stanford and other California law schools, Werksman shared insights on personal injury litigation and the deep sense of purpose that comes with representing survivors of abuse, medical negligence, and civil rights violations.
“If you’d told me then that I’d be back at Stanford Law in 2025, speaking to a packed house of students about the rewards of plaintiff-side personal injury law, I’d have been very surprised,” Werksman said. “But it’s an easy sell—who doesn’t want to help people in need, make money, and live a good life?”
As a partner at Merson Law, Werksman plays a key role in the firm’s high-profile litigation, including sexual abuse and civil rights cases that have garnered national attention. His commitment to mentoring young lawyers and advancing the plaintiff-side bar reflects Merson Law’s own mission to empower victims, pursue justice, and change institutional systems that have failed the vulnerable.
The Stanford Lawyer feature recognizes Werksman as part of a broader movement reshaping legal education and career pathways. Interest in plaintiff-side law has nearly doubled at Stanford Law in recent years, and national organizations such as the National Plaintiffs Law Association (NPLA) are expanding rapidly.
Merson Law congratulates Nathan Werksman on this well-deserved recognition and applauds his ongoing work to educate, inspire, and advocate.
