What is a Motor Vehicle Accident?

Motor Vehicle accident law refers to the legal rules that determine who is responsible for the personal and property damage resulting from a traffic collision. This area of the law consists of the principles of negligence, as applied to this particular category of personal injury cases. Like other cases in which negligence law applies, car accident litigation is governed almost entirely by state law.

Here’s an example of a motor vehicle accident: LP was traveling westbound on N. 45th Street in Seattle, Washington when he was unexpectedly cut off by NF, who had entered the roadway from a side street. NF entered N. 45th directly in front of LP, leaving him no time to swerve or evade the collision.  He instinctively hit his brakes, but then went into a slide, resulting in him being ejected over the handlebars and landing the ground below.  Seattle Police Department responded to the scene and upon investigation cited NF for failure to yield at stop sign.
