The mother who when she put herself between a falling tree and her three young children in Central Park last month is “completely immobilized” and plans to sue the city for $200 million, her attorney Jordan Merson said Tuesday.

Merson added that his client, Anne Monoky Goldman, cannot breastfeed her infant daughter or move her neck for the next two to three months after she was pinned underneath the tree near West 62nd Street and West Drive on Aug. 15.

Officials say Anne was pinned under the tree for up to 10 minutes and was in and out of consciousness; she was in critical condition

Goldman was carrying her newborn daughter in a carrier and pushing a double stroller with her two boys, ages 2 and 4, when the tree came toppling down.

Her children didn’t suffer any lasting injuries, but Anne took the brunt of the blow and may never walk the same way again, according to Merson. She was floating in and out of consciousness when first responders got to the scene.

It’s not clear what caused the tree to topple over, but the Daily News reported after the mishap that its roots had decayed.

Merson said he plans to file a notice of claim against the city on Wednesday.

Can Birth Injuries Affect a Child for Life? Understanding Long-Term Impacts

Can a birth injury affect a child for life? When oxygen deprivation or physical trauma occurs during delivery, the consequences can span decades. From cerebral palsy and learning disabilities to brachial plexus paralysis, the long term effects of birth injuries impact a child’s mobility, emotional wellbeing, and financial security. If delivery room errors caused your child’s trauma, legal options exist.

brachial plexus

What Is a Brachial Plexus Birth Injury? A Guide for Families

The brachial plexus is the nerve network controlling arm and hand movement. When delivery teams pull forcefully on an infant’s head during shoulder dystocia, these delicate nerves can stretch or tear, leading to conditions like Erb’s palsy. While some stretch injuries heal, severe tears require surgery. If your baby suffered nerve trauma from excessive force, you have a right to seek legal answers.

fetal distress

Can Failure to Recognize Fetal Distress Lead to Cerebral Palsy?

During labor, electronic fetal monitors act as a baby’s voice. If a medical team misinterprets or ignores distressing fetal heart rate patterns (such as bradycardia or late decelerations), they fail to protect the child. This prolonged oxygen deprivation causes irreversible brain cell death, often leading directly to a preventable fetal distress cerebral palsy diagnosis. You have a right to hold negligent hospitals accountable.
